On the second day the formless watery mass that teemed with the life created on the first day was ordered. The structuring was necessary to fulfill the requirement for a permanent separation of light and dark.
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. (Genesis 1:6-8)
What actually happened? A very simple way to interpret this passage, and indeed, to understand the totality of scripture, is to believe that God created gravity. In modern technical jargon this would be called a “singularity.” The point where He created it became the center of the creation. This also happens to be the center of the Earth.
So what is gravity? Could it be a manifestation of God’s unconditional love? And God so loved His creation that he set His love within it? Thus God made gravity. A point in the deep water which became the center. Could this point embody Gods love from which all things receive their sustenance? We’ll find out more as we develop Matty’s Paradigm that we can actually begin to understand the purpose that God had in these successive creative stages. Why did God create creation? Hopefully we’ll find out.
They key to understanding the creation of gravity as being the creative act of the second day are the scriptural references to this moment in time. There are several, and all are marked by the fact that the spanning of the heavens is directly linked to the establishment the foundations of the Earth. The establishment of the foundations of the Earth and the stretching out of the heavens are two components of a single event:
When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: (Proverbs 8:27)
A compass is a device used to draw a circle that depends on having a sharp point. The point is the location of the center of the circle, and in our scenario it is the center of gravity. The depth here referred to is the watery mass that has just exploded with light and the beginnings of life. The circle He drew is the location of the firmament. This is the location of Gods throne:
Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power (Psalm 150:1)
Here are some more examples of the same event, where the foundations of the Earth and the heavens came into being at the same time, recorded in scripture:
Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. (Psalm 102:25)
Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together. (Isaiah 48:13)
And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor? (Isaiah 51:13)
And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. (Isaiah 51:16)
And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: (Hebrews 1:10)
They are irrevocably linked. I am proposing the creation of a singularity as the mechanism.
Such as it is, the singularity made the waters of the Great Deep contract, the heaviest elements and forms sinking deeper towards the center, displacing the lighter forms and establishing concentric rings of density. There is indeed an Hebrew concept of gravity that occurs in scripture at precisely the moment that our narrative requires that that gravity was created. Thus there began a structuring or stratification of the atomic, molecular and cellular forms that God had made on the first day. At this time dissolved gas came out of solution. Oxygen produced by photosynthetic algae on the first day combined with dissolved iron compounds. Iron oxides precipitated and the Banded Iron Formations were deposited. The compacting of matter around the singularity caused some of the life forms to become trapped and buried. There are what we frequently refer to as Precambrian fossils.
At the circle of the firmament, series of layers layers of light compounds crystallized into a rigid structure that formed a protective shell around the entire creation. These are substances with gem like properties because of their mostly open lattice crystal structures. They are, by nature, light bearing or light propagating compounds. This opens up our understanding of the Hebrew word used for the firmament: רָקִ֖יעַ raqia. Clearly the word refers to something that is made, or constructed, and in every case specifically something that is thin, like the metal that is beaten out to overlay a sculpture, woven cloth, or a thin wafer. We are to understand that the expanse referred to by the word raqia, is an horizontal expanse in the sense of a vast, thin sheet of material, like a wall, forming a solid barrier between the waters below and the waters above.
The construction of a rigid crystalline firmament with a layered structure solves a lot of nagging scriptural issues. It also provides a source of material for the formation of the stars and planets on the fourth day. This is especially significant, because the layered crystal structure gives rise to the phenomenon of red shift and blue shift of the stars, because they are actually made of compounds like sapphire and ruby, which is why they are red and blue colored. This also can account for the data that is being interpreted as exoplanets orbiting distant suns, because the alternating red shift/blue shift in the data can be accounted for by a pieces of crystalline firmament material (CFM) that have layers of ruby and sapphire that rotate, reflecting alternating red and blue light.
A space opened below the firmament as the Earth continued to contract and become more dense. This is the beginning of the three heavens described in scripture:
- the “open firmament,” or atmosphere where birds fly;
- the celestial realm where the stars are set;
- the third heaven which is the location of God’s throne.
This model provides us with a source of light for the second and third days of creation:
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel 12:3)
This model provides one of the sources of water for the account of Noah’s flood, and gives us a way to have literal, physical windows of heaven.
This also makes a clear implication that the center of the Earth is the location of Hell.
